Journey of your life is waiting to be experienced

introduction

about me

For the last 14 years I’ve been living on this marvelous place on the Colombian Caribbean coast in Santa Marta. There is no other place on earth where you can find such diversity of climates, landscapes and culture.

In less than 2 weeks you will see the paradise beaches, the deserts, the tropical rain forests, the highest coastal mountain in the worlds with snow peaks at almost 6000m, the colonial cities Santa Marta and Cartagena, the indigenous Wayuus in the Guajira desert and Koguis and Aruacos in the Sierra Nevada.

There is no other place on earth where you can find such diversity of climates, landscapes and culture.

my experience

Having been married to a Colombian woman I learned the region and the culture very well and I will be delighted to share it with you. The main advantage of choosing Colombian Coast as a vacation spot is the possibility to see so many things in one region without losing the time in the transport. That will make the vacations stress free.

The main advantage of choosing Colombian Coast as a vacation spot is the possibility to see so many things in one region without losing the time in the transport.

my offer

Besides a magical 2 weeks’ vacation I can offer you tennis and language courses. I created a bilingual school Aprende Ingles Jugando Tenis, where local kids can learn two things at the same time. I had lived in different countries and had to learn altogether 6 languages and developed a methodology to learn them successfully.

I can offer you tennis and language courses together with unforgettable holidays.

I Desert in Upper Guajira

  1. Our adventure starts in Riohacha, the capital of the northern most province of Colombia. From there the next day we go to Cabo de la Vela. The trip takes 2.5 hours. There are no roads there, only the sand, rocks and the cactus.
  2. You will be amazed by the landscapes that seem rather to come from an inhospitable planet than from the earth and by the hospitality and the culture of the indigenous Wayuus who have never been colonialized by the Spaniards.
  3. On the 3rd day we continue our safari to the northern most point of South America Punta Gallina. We pass through the Wayuu communities, visit the Taroa Dunes and after 3 hours we reach our destination.
  4. There are no luxury hotels there but even for Bill Gates it was not a problem and in 2017 he came here for a week vacation. We sleep either in traditional hamac called chinchorros or in a small house built of cactus.

La Guajira, where desert meets the sea, is one of the most visually stunning places in South America.

II Sierra Nevada

  1. On the 4th day we return to Riohacha then we go 80 km south west. On the way we stop by to see the sanctuary of the flamingos and in the late afternoon we reach the Taironaca hotel which was built on the ancient Tayrona terraces.
  2. On the 5th day we do the tubing on the Don Diego river then go to the nearby Valencia waterfall and spend the evening on the beach watching a wonderful sunset and thinking how on earth was it possible that the climate changed so drastically. Instead of the dessert we see the palm beaches the tropical rain forests, the rivers, the mountains and the snow peaks at almost 6000m.

Breathtakingly beautiful Sierra Nevada contains almost every ecosystem on the planet: deserts, alpine lakes, rainforests, wetlands, tundra, coral reefs, and glaciers.

III Indigenous Koguis and Aruacos

  1. On the 6th day we go to the Sierra Nevada mountain to get in touch with the indigenous Koguis and Aruacos, the descendants of the ancient Tayronas who originally lived on the coast but 450 years ago after the arrival of the Spaniards escaped to the higher parts of the Sierra Nevada where they lived in isolation for centuries. And today they live almost the same way as their ancestors 500 years ago.
  2. After getting in touch with our elder brothers (they call themselves so because they believe the Sierra Nevada is the center of the universe and all people outside are called younger brothers) in the late afternoon we get to the Los Angeles beach where we stay for 2 nights.

Koguis and Aruacos represent the most complete surviving civilization of pre-Colombian America.

IV Tayrona Park and paradise beaches

  1. On the 7th day we just enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean Sea. 10 minutes walking from our beach we get to the mouth of the Rio Piedra which makes the boundary of the Tayrona Park. The beaches there are virgin with very few people.
  2. On the 8th day we visit the eastern part of the Tayrona National Park where the Sierra Nevada mountain joins the sea. We enter the park in the village Calabazo then walk through the jungle for 2.5 hours and reach Cabo San Juan which according to NG belongs to the 20 most beautiful beaches in the world.
  3. In the afternoon we continue walking along the coast visiting the Arcenilla, Piscina, Arecifes and Cañaveral beaches (altogether 1.5h walking) and in the late afternoon we leave the park in Zaino entrance and in evening we arrive to Santa Marta.

Tayrona Park is full of biodiversity with over 60 mammal species as well as 400 species of birds, in addition to countless reptiles and amphibians.

V Santa Marta and its surroundings

  1. On the 9t h day we stay in the oldest colonial town in Colombia - Santa Marta. You will see the historic center, mercado where you can buy all kinds of exotic fruits and in the afternoon, you will visit a nearby fishermen village Ta ganga From there we can take a boat or walk 15 minutes to the Playa Grande and later in the evening enjoy a little bit of Santa Marta's night life.
  2. On the 10th day we go 15 km to Minca a village at 650 meters called the ecological capital of Colombia, where farmers grow organic coffee, cacao and tropical fruits. We will visit the coffee farm Victoria, where the coffee is processed with more than 100 years old machines, a series of waterfalls Pozos Azules and walk through coffee farms.
  3. The next day you will go to the western part of the Tayrona Park. The entrance is 15km from Santa Marta. Then we go by car to the Neguanje bay from which we will take a boat to the most known beach Playa Cristal. There are a lot coral reefs that’s why it s a perfect place for snorkelling. If you prefer a quieter place, I recommend to go to another bay Gairaca with 2 virgin beaches Playa Media and Playa del Amor where very often you will not see anyone. What is also astonishing is the climate difference compared to the eastern part of the park. Instead of tropical rain forest you will see a lot of cactus and bushes because it rains very little here. In the late afternoon we are back in Santa Marta.

The oldest city in Colombia, romantic Santa Marta is fringed by beautiful beaches and the stunning mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta range.

VI Cartagena

  1. On the 12th day we leave Santa Marta and go 200km (that’s the only day that you will need to spend a couple of hours in the car) to Cartagena, but 30km after leaving Santa Marta we stop and go by boat to Nueva Venecia a palafito village, 450 houses in the middle of the lake. Before getting to Cartagena, we also take bath in the volcanic mud in Totumo. In the evening we arrive to Cartagena the richest and most famous town in the colonial time where we spend the next 13th day. During the colonial wars, defensive walls were build to protect the city. Due to the security, the richest families had their mansions there. The wealth of the City came from the trade, as it was the main port connecting Spain with the new world.
  2. And the next day is the last day of your Caribbean experience There are some places on our earth which you should visit once in your life and Colombian Caribbean Coast is one of those. This program is a suggestion with difficulty level 3. The program can be shortened, extended and modified according to your needs.

Cartagena's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Historic city of superbly preserved beauty is lying within an impressive 13km of centuries-old colonial stone walls. Cartagena is one of the most beautiful, well-preserved cities in the Americas.

The first 4hours we will practice off the court in a beautiful place where you will learn how to move on the tennis court, how to hold the racquet, the rhythm and acceleration of the stroke , the technique of the forehand and backhand strokes. These first 3hours can be a bit hard because you will be corrected many times b ut thanks to that you're going to get a good stroke quickly. You will learn in this beautiful scenery cause one of the most important thing in tennis is to stay relaxed.

DEDICATION

Tennis is not a very easy sport, it takes a bit of practice and dedication, but a fit person can learn it in 25 hours. Learning foreign language is a much more difficult thing. To be able to communicate easily indifferent social situations, you need at least 400 hours. But no matter what your level in Spanish is , you will get the message because everything I say, I show you on t he court . So you can absorb the language like children absorb their mother tongue. I learnt altogether 5 foreign languages and I consider that the best way i s to learn them by passion. When you watch or do something that you are interested in you learn it much faster.

PRACTICE

This is counterintuitive and needs to be learnt. When you think of tennis as a tai chi mind body exercise you will learn fast and enjoy it much more. When you start hitting the easy balls that I'm going to feed you from my hand, you'll need a little time to get your positioning right and synchronize the movement of the racket with the movement of the ball. This program will be adapted to your needs. Practicing tennis 3 hours a day you can learn it in 8 days. Spanish you can learn with me and the native speakers who are my friends and family members of my wife. But of course, if you are a very beginner you would need to stay here at least 1 month to learn it enough. If you are more advanced in tennis or Spanish you can upgrade your level in this wonderful region.
